The traditional art of Ukranian Egg decorating is known as Pysanky. The method is similar to batik with patterns drawn on the egg with wax. When the eggs are dyed, the wax covered areas resist the dyes. Different colors and designs are achieved by repeating this process This tradition is over 2000 years old. Each color and symbol have special meaning. The designs that are predominantly white, brown and black are called Trypillian.
